ALASKAN BROWN BEAR HUNTING OVERVIEW
DATES FOR BROWN BEAR HUNTING
First off, if you are looking for peninsula hunts you must remember that you can only hunt in the fall on odd years and in the spring on even years. (To clarify if you are hunting in 2019, the season is in the fall) Our fall brown bear hunts are usually held during October but can vary based on the area.
This is an excellent time to hunt an additional species like moose, caribou and black bear. We are often able to hunt brown bears over the carcasses of the other animals we are hunting. Many times, a brown bear will be on that gut pile within 24 hrs.
In the fall we are often hunting bears on salmon streams which can be a blast as you will see many bears. The bigger bears are a little harder to find this time of year but the hunts can be more fun cause you are just seeing lots of brown bears on the best holes.
Spring brown bear hunts fall from May 10-30th. Spring is a great chance to shoot a giant, but you need to be prepared for a challenging hunt on numbers of bears you will see as well as sometimes rougher weather. We are often hunting bears in the spring coming out of their winter dens and over tidal flats once they come down to graze on the fresh new spring grass.
HUNTING BROWN BEAR WITH PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS
We suggest if you are limited physically that you ask us about two of our hunts. One, is our baited hunt which is a blast. You can hunt 3 black bears and one brown bear in the same hunt over bait. It is easier physically and the lodging is in cabins. The other will be more of a remote hunt in the fall but this brown bear hunt will be over salmon streams, glassing from distance and, once a shooter moves in all you must do is make the stalk.
ARCHERY HUNTING BROWN BEARS
We have three different brown bear hunts that hunt well for archery. One is a costal hunt where you are hunting tidal flats and beach lines that allow for an opportunity at ambush and spot and stalk. We also have the above mentioned baited brown bear hunt where it’s an awesome opportunity to hunt brown bears with even stick bows or traditional archery. And as well we have the salmon streams in the fall that will allow you to sneak in on a bear while he’s focused on catching his next salmon.
TROPHY QUALITY ON OUR BROWN BEARS
Most of our areas consistently produce 9 to 10 ft plus brown bears. That is what we do. Some of our combo areas will tend to be closer to 8-9ft bears but what we are known for is monster brown bears and hunting with the guys who produce that year in and year out. Our best bear in 2018 was 10’11”!!!!
